Police Update 21 Dec 09

I hope this finds you all rested following the Christmas Break. The biggest problem encountered over the Christmas period has been theft

from motor vehicles right across the Western Wards. Looking at these, a lot are due to vehicles being left insecure or because they have items on display within the vehicle. Please remind members of your schemes to remove valuables from the vehicles and lock their cars when not in use. Patrols have been increased where possible, and additional uniform Officers were drafted in over the period concerned. As usual I would ask that any thing suspicious seen be reported to the Police as soon as is possible. As you are aware, a lot of our arrests come from vigilant members of the Public putting in a phone call as a crime unfolds before them.

Remember if you witness a crime taking place ring 999 if you discover a crime has occurred some time later, let us know on either 101 or 0845 0454545.

One of the other obvious problems for us over the break was the sudden cold snap. This stretched our resources somewhat and given the noticeable rise in vehicle accidents, pedestrians falling over and frozen things snapping off! We found our units being deployed to all manner of reports, which would not normally be within our remit. In the main though we coped with the increased demand and It was really good to see the public helping out in all manner of ways. Looking at the forecast it may well be round 2 in the not too distant future.

Fareham Borough Council have now employed a full time Anti Social Behaviour Officer. This is excellent news for the team and will allow us to start working once again in conjunction with the Council in a pro active manner, tackling and addressing longer term issues and the behaviour of a minority of people that just don't learn.

On a final note, the opening times of Park Gate Police Station is a matter that arises quite often at open meetings and Police Surgery's. Most people seem to think the station is always shut. This is not the case and it is actually open Monday to Friday 0800 - 1600. That said there is no capacity to maintain this if there is sickness or leave, at this time. Please could you take the time to look at the attached questionaire and distribute to your members. If you could then have them returned to a WRA Committee Member for collection by one of my team I would be obliged. Please download from Downloads on the top Menu, then Misc Items

As always take care

Regards,
